Blue Kaiju

Blue Kaiju

Blue Kaiju is a new metal band formed in 2022 in Oklahoma City, OK by four experienced musicians and songwriters from the Oklahoma music scene.
Fronting the band is Blue Diven, who provides clean and guttural vocals as well as poignant and hard hitting lyrics drawing from her experiences as a combat veteran, mother, and survivor.
Bentley Burris provides lead and rhythm guitar, bringing both unique and ripping solos and heavy
riffs to the band’s sound.
David Maynor is the bassist of Blue Kaiju, and delivers progressively intricate, yet driving basslines
that complement the guitar and vocals on every song.
Hitting stuff (drums) is the masterful Nick McPherson, who lays the foundation for the entire band with his technical and dynamic playing.
Fans of ABBA, Cher, and Five Finger Death Punch will likely notice elements of those bands in Blue
Kaiju’s sound, yet the band aims to deliver something new in each song, and combines technical, driving, and sometimes brutal riffs with melodic vocals that bridge the divide between progressive rock and heavier metal.
Releasing two singles, each with their own music video in 2023 and an EP, All Things in Between, in 2024, Blue Kaiju is on an upward trajectory and is poised to continue into 2025 and beyond.

David Maynor

David Maynor

Bassist

David Maynor is a bass player hailing from Texas with experience in a plethora of genres and bands since picking up his first bass at the age of 16. David attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and played in a top 40 cover band for 4 years while a cadet. After graduating West Point and commissioning into the United States Army as a Field Artillery Officer in 2013, David was stationed at Fort Sill, OK, where he met his wonderful wife Frances while playing bass for a Christmas party band. Also while at Fort Sill, David met future Blue Kaiju member Bentley Burris when he joined the band Grel, which morphed over 3 years into the progressive stoner metal band Sunlander. Leaving active military service in 2018, David moved to Oklahoma City, where he continued to play in both Sunlander as well as fill in gigs in local blues and country acts. While playing along side Bentley as a hired gun musician for southern rock artist Kenneth Koultre, David met drummer Nick McPherson. David, Bentley and Nick were all heavily impressed with one another’s playing abilities, and so when David was asked to join the nascent Blue Kaiju by Blue Diven, he recommended the band also audition Bentley and Nick. Outside of music, David is an avid fisherman and fitness enthusiast. His day job as a government contractor for the Air Force allows him to travel the world and oversee antenna tower construction in every corner of the globe. When he is not travelling, fishing, or at the gym, he spends time with his wife and three sons. Known for his progressive, driving bass lines and technical proficiency on the extended range 6 string bass, David forms a crucial part of the Blue Kaiju sound. He is an endorser of Skjold Design Basses and Arkham Sound Vacuum Tube Amplifiers.
